The Power of Words

I’ve always considered myself lucky to be a lifelong lover of words. Whether it be reading or writing, there’s something so powerfully refreshing about developing new content. Growing up, I was inspired by the power that a writer has. Authors develop stories that bring characters and settings and themes to life in such a realistic way that sometimes, just sometimes, I think I’ve fallen into their world.

I was actually the kid who got her books taken away when I got in trouble. There wasn’t anything else my parents could pull from me that would excite such a response. Sometimes I think that reading so many books while growing up had me living in an imagination blurred world. You see, I’m introverted, enneagram 9, a homebody. I’d always choose to stay home with a book, a warm blanket, and a cold Dr. Pepper. Did I mention I’m a caffeine addict? It may or may not contribute to my ever growing anxiety about being an actual adult and having to make real life decisions.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how much the content we take in shapes our perspective. I realize my expectations are so often pulled from stories I’ve read about or watched on TV or seen on social media. How I view romance, hardship, relationships, life. Some of my favorite books have always been fantasy, I think partly because it is so far from the real world. The stories are full of adventure and excitement. I wanted to be a part of it, to be enveloped into their world. Their stories were so amazing compared to my seemingly ordinary life. And yet, I’m learning how to find the beauty in the world around me.

This is just the beginning of my blogging journey. If you came to visit, thanks for checking my website out! I’d love to hear from you, even if it’s just to tell me your favorite Netflix show or what kind of dog you have. No matter what, I’m here to listen. I’ve had quite a difficult mental health journey over the last couple of years and have seen what intense darkness looks like. I want to be there for others and hear your story. If we haven’t met yet, my name’s Emily and welcome to my blog.
